Total Overhaul and Addition of Antiphonal Horizontal Trumpet
Haymount United Methodist Church
Fayetteville, NC
This project began in early March 2020, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, its completion was slightly delayed. Haymount United Methodist Church is home to a distinguished 1975 M. P. Möller organ, Opus 11011, featuring three manuals, four divisions, 35 stops, 43 registers, 46 ranks, and 2,603 pipes. Our work was comprehensive, ranging from the re-leathering of the windchests and the renovation of the bellows, to the replacement of the electronic organ control system. The console was completely refurbished, fitted with new register solenoids, new pistons, and a new contactless switching system.
As part of this significant restoration, commissioned to commemorate the church’s 75th anniversary, we were asked to add a new horizontal trumpet, the “Trompette de Gabriel.” This involved crafting new pipes, constructing new electro-pneumatic windchests, designing and manufacturing a high-pressure winding system, and integrating the new rank into the existing organ. The new trumpet was installed on the pillars between the stained-glass windows at the rear of the church. The pipes are made of 92% tin and play at a wind pressure of 12 inches.
